Manuel Schmitt comes from Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany). In 2013 he graduated from the Bavarian Theater Academy August Everding in Munich with his production of Philipp Glass' Galileo Galieli. He then studied philosophy at the Munich School of Philosophy. Manuel Schmitt is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association in Munich and plays the piano and the cello.
Manuel Schmitt was stage director at the Musiktheater im Revier (The Pearlfishers), at the Theater Trier (The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), at the Staatstheater Nürnberg (Meisterklasse), at the Nordharzer Stadtbundtheater in Halberstadt (Nathan der Weise), at the Lueg Arena in Switzerland (The Barber of Seville), and at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (Requiem für einen Lebenden).
For his documentary film "Glass between Us" he was awarded the "Best director of a short documentary" at the International Filmmaker Festival in Berlin. For his production of "Die Perlenfischer", Manuel Schmitt received the Gelsenkirchen Theater Prize 2019.
